The NAACC held a very successful AGM in early September in Owen Sound Ontario. All provinces from Canada were represented. Many important topics were discussed including the new motor vehicle legislative re-write being done in Nova Scotia, updated ICBC Collector Plate legislation in BC and a host of other topics including the 2017 Cross Canada Tour. The Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance hosted the NAACC Board of Directors. After a very full day of meetings and lengthy discussions in the evening the board was treated to Canada’s finest Concours. Needless to say, this is one Concours you need to place on your bucket list. The grounds and accommodations are truly a stunning setting. 2017 will be a very busy year for the NAACC as many of its members are involved with the NAACC Coasters Cross Canada Tour. The Coasters Tour starts in Victoria British Columbia and finishes in St John’s Newfoundland. There are 100 plus registered vehicles for the tour. This is the 50th Anniversary of the Tour. This event in 1967 is what lead to the NAACC being officially formed. Please call up www.naacc.ca and read the early history of the NAACC. You may recognize many names. The Fawcett Motor Carriage Company has operated in Whitby, Ontario, Canada for more than 50 years. It’s owners were instrumental in the formation of our group. Ron and Madeline Fawcett were on the first Cross Canada Tour in 1967. Ironically Peter Fawcett from Oshawa, ON was a winner at the Cobble Beach Concours this year with his 1905 Stanley Model F Touring. As big as the hobby is in Canada it really is a very small family.
The NAACC will continue to lobby for the Collector Vehicle hobby in 2017. We have many items that we deal with on a regular basis including Ethanol fuel coupled with racing fuel, paints, restrictive legislation directed at modified vehicles and emissions and safety concerns directed at Vintage vehicles. We will continue to work hand in hand with SEMA/SAN in the USA. The NAACC has again proclaimed July 2017 as Automotive Heritage Month in Canada. Friday July 14, 2017 has been declared Collector Car Appreciation Day in both the USA and Canada.
In closing, your club dues renewals are being sent as I write this update to you. The cost of dues as well as club insurance have not gone up in 2017.
